07-19-2026 Invitation to Miracles

Test: Jeremiah 33:3

                This morning we’re going to look briefly at how God encouraged the prophet Jeremiah so we can see how He does the same for all Christians.  The life of a prophet of God wasn’t easy especially when you consider that Jeremiah lived during very hard times:  his people were taken captive, the message from God that he tried to deliver was rejected, and he was put in prison.  Our text is from Jeremiah 33:3 where God says to him:  “Call unto Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you know not.” 

                This verse to Jeremiah is the great promise from God where God invited him to a life of miracles.  God was telling him that when Jeremiah called on God in prayer, he will get the miracles he needed to change his life.  The good news is that this same promise is available to all believers today who love and trust God.  Prayer will bring miracles into our lives.

                God invites every one of us today to call on Him.  How exactly do we do this?  By answering His invitation through prayer.  Prayer begins with God’s invitation and not with our troubled condition of the moment.  Verse 1 of Jeremiah 33 tells us that because Jeremiah was in prison, he was unable to deliver the message God had given him to share with the people.  So, God invited Jeremiah to call on Him. 

                We’re invited to call on God – to pray - many times in the Bible.  Matthew 7:7 tells us to ask, and it shall be given.  James 4:2 reminds us that we have not because we ask not.  And Hebrews 4:15 tells us to call boldly in times of need.  There are so many times we suffer through a situation because we don’t take the time to call on God through prayer for the help we desperately need.  Why are we so often reluctant to ask for help when we need it the most?  Because we let our pride and stubbornness stop us from calling on Him first.  Our God loves us and wants to help us.

                The promise we have been given is that when we call on God in prayer, He will answer us.  This isn’t just theological therapy, spinning a prayer wheel, or bowing to an idol.  Prayer is a direct line that allows us to talk to God at any time and under any circumstance.  And He has promised that He will answer us. 

                There are so many examples in the Bible of God answering the prayers of his people.  Genesis shows how God answered Abraham’s prayer for a son in his old age.  I Kings 19 tells how God answered Elijah’s prayer for rain.  God answered David’s prayer for freedom from fear in Psalm 34:4. And II Chronicles 1 shows us how God answered King Solomon’s prayer wisdom.  God is still answering prayers from His people today.  But we must take the time to ask Him for what we need and then wait for the answer to come.

                Our text assures us that God will show us great and mighty things when we call on Him in prayer.  Ephesians 3:20 tells us that our God can do immeasurably more for us than what we ask or can ever imagine is within His power to provide.  But we must ask Him and trust that He will come through for us.  Jesus tells us in Matthew 17:20 that prayer can move mountains even when our faith is as small as a mustard seed.  There are no limits to how many times we can ask God to help us.  Jesus also tells us in Mark 9:23 that all things are possible to those who believe.  So, when you ask, let your faith show you that you will get an answer.

                We never have to be afraid to accept God’s invitation to come to Him in prayer and ask for what we need.  We should pray for our homes, our churches, our family and friends, and our nation and her leaders.  We should also pray for our own personal needs such as our health or help with relationships and job issues.  We must always pray expecting God to answer our requests. 

                God is always ready to answer our prayers, but we must come to Him.  Yes, God could take care of our needs without our asking – but by asking, we’re acknowledging that He is our God and that He is all-powerful.  We can’t accomplish with our own strength all that is in His domain to do for us.  When we ask, we’re to humble ourselves, lay aside our willfulness and worry, and then commit to obeying Him.  When we make it a habit to call on Him for everything, we soon find our lives will be more blessed and less stressful because we’re putting our faith in the almighty God who created us and the world in which we live.

                We used to sing a song called Royal Telephone that reinforces that we have a direct line to God at all times that can never be broken unless we lose faith and fail to call on Him.  We don’t have to use pretty words or catch phrases either.  All we need to do is set aside our pride and stubbornness and ask God to help us.  When it’s difficult to put our needs into words, share that with Him because He also knows what’s in our hearts and our minds.  We can trust Him to take care of us.
